The boss brought this in, unearthed while digging through storage to find things for me to list on eBay. He liked having a 1939 Sunday comics page (From the November 11 1939 Minneapolis Tribune), so it was put aside, but I asked to photograph it first, then had to explain about the CC and snarking and Mary Worth... for indeed, this has the legendary proto-Mary "Apple Mary" in it, making sure her grandson appreciates modern Thanksgiving. Also notable is the Mickey Mouse comic and Thimble Theater. The Annie knock-off "Little Annie Rooney" is also interesting. This blows my mind... eight pages, 2 strips per page! Forgive the low quality of the images, I'm a terrible photographer. I think everything's legible, at least.
Thanx for the post! While I think the writing may be sharper in some (not all!) modern comics, I stand in awe of the draftsmanship or these earlier artists.
