Ted could dress up like Marilyn Monroe and sing "Happy birthday... Mister Pres-i-dennnt" and not be more "out" than he already is in today's Friday (Oct 30) SF. Look at the gestures, ESPECIALLY in the first panel. Oy. Those flames should have set off smoke detectors in every house on their block.

I'm not sure Ted has the cojones for full-on outrageousness, so using Halloween as cover will give him a chance to ease into it. I have no doubt that he's already wearing dresses a lot. Sally grudgingly tolerates it, but forbids it when Hil's around. Ces won't let him out in public. In his mind,"dressing" for Halloween is a way to lobby both Ces and Sal to be more accepting. He can leave the maid's uniform in the closet and go with an '80s theme. He has a Princess Di look going on anyway.

Besides, Aria will be there. She'll be hugely amused, which will really amp up Sally's anxiety level.

"Heart" is completely different. Dean isn't a secret drag queen like Ted is. To him dressing up like Heart is kind of stupid, but it's no big deal.

Dean is the best kid in the comics, except maybe Petey Otterloop.

But you've got to admit.....for an actuary, Ted is pretty cool.

(much like our old friend J.Po, the actual actuary)

I thought it was totally adorable that Heart and Dean started dressing like each other...up to the point where they started adding random crap. Funny as hell, don't get me wrong, but it lost its adorable charm :(

Right you are Beasley, right you are. Although not quite as cool as the late great Cardinal J.Po, who, we assume, is getting his Phillie on even as we speak.

By the way, Beas, for the Heart/Dean explanation, turn back a page. Unlike Ted, Dean has enough hair to put on a dress...even though he bailed out in the end.

The possibility of Ted cross-dressing triggered references to the strip Heart of the City where principal characters Heart and Dean have been experimenting with dressing as each other for Halloween.

I really love a lot of what Ces does, especially Medium Large, but the Forth's pitiful lack of Halloween spirit isn't zany - it's just really sad.

SALLY FORTH and CLEATS go head to head with the same set-up:

I think this one goes to SALLY FORTH, which at least went for a fresher punchline and kept it in character.

The Sunday strip is pretty funny. Good art, too.

The whole "Too lazy or uncreative to even make a home made costume for the party" thing just seemed a letdown. A lot of the social issues that drove the original Sally Forth just aren't that relevant anymore, and waste Ces brainage.

The Forths as a suburban stealth Addams Family is a lot funnier IMHO.

Yes, I much prefer the current dysfunctional, social outcast Forths to the smug, self-righteous "role model" bullcrap that SF was in the Gregg Howard/NOW days. And I prefer gender-confused, gay-curious, man-child Ted (small hands, limp wrist and all!) to "sensitive and supportive" Ted that I wished I could drag off the funny pages so I could smack him silly(er).

This may be the best SALLY FORTH of the year, heck, of the decade...

I'm wondering if it's a ref. to LUANN. Ces?
